Brooklyn Stroke Attorneys
According to the
American Stroke
Association,
stroke is the number
third highest cause
of death in the
United States, as
well as a leading
cause of serious,
long-term
disability.
Although medical
professionals have
years of experience

human limitations
mean that errors are
always possible --
and sometimes they
fail to properly
diagnose the
symptoms of a
stroke.
A missed diagnosis
of a stroke is a
form of medical
malpractice. If you
or someone you love
has suffered as the
result of a medical
professional’s
failure to diagnose
a stroke, please

Failed Stroke Diagnosis
The most common type of stroke occurs when fatty deposits build up inside the arteries that supply the brain with oxygen-rich blood. When these arteries are narrowed or blocked, the lack of oxygen-rich blood results in an ischemic stroke.
A second type of stroke, known as a hemorrhagic stroke, can occur when a weakened vessel ruptures and bleeds into the brain. Without quick treatment, a stroke can lead to serious brain and nerve damage, and even death.
The warning signs of stroke include:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body;
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding;
- Sudden trouble seeing from one or both eyes;
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination;
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
A patient who visits a doctor with any of these symptoms should be subjected to certain diagnostic tests in order to confirm or rule out the possibility of a stroke. There are several tests that can be performed to review how a person’s brain looks, works, and gets its blood supply including CT scans, MRIs, electroencephalograms, evoked responses, B-mode images, Doppler ultrasounds, duplex scans, and angiographies. When a doctor fails to conduct these tests or misreads the test results, a stroke can go undetected and result in permanent disability or death.
The sooner a stroke is diagnosed, the sooner treatment can begin. There are drugs available that can break up a clot, restoring blood flow and averting serious damage. When a doctor or emergency room personnel miss the signs of stroke, they can be held accountable for the damage done because the failure to recognize and diagnose a stroke is medical negligence.
If you have been the victim of medical misdiagnosis, you may have a medical malpractice claim.
