Overview of Hospital: Founded in 1883, Lutheran Medical Center is a 326 short-term hospital located in Southwest Brooklyn, NY, employing close to 200 physicians and residents and over 400 registered nurses. LMC is a major teaching affiliate of the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, and is a cardiac care affiliate with Mount Sinai.
LMC is a member of the Lutheran Healthcare system. Lutheran HealthCare is a social ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), offering comprehensive health care and social support. The network includes Lutheran Medical Center, the Lutheran Family Health Centers, Lutheran Augustana Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation, senior housing and Health Plus, Inc.
Lutheran hospital provides a full complement of traditional care with a range of specialties, including a cardiac catheterization laboratory, a designated stroke center and one of only three Level I Trauma Centers in Brooklyn.

Specialties: Lutheran Medical Center offers the following services in support of its mission:
- Lutheran's team of cancer care specialists is equipped with the latest, most effective and least invasive cancer treatments including laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery used to treat many abdominal and urological cancers.
- Lutheran's Level One Trauma Center, with trauma surgeons on call 24 hours a day, treat more than 130 critically ill trauma patients each month. The Trauma Center averages more than 1,400 patients a year, making it the third busiest trauma center in the New York City area.
- Lutheran is a New York State-designated regional Stroke Center, treating hundreds of stroke victims annually. Designation as a stroke center means that Lutheran has the advanced technology and highly trained staff needed to diagnose and treat stroke quickly.
