Overview of Hospital: Interfaith Medical Center operates a modern hospital with 287 beds and an ambulatory care network of 16 clinics covering the Central Brooklyn area of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant. Interfaith is a multi-site, community teaching health care system providing a wide range of medical, surgical, gynecological, dental, psychiatric and pediatric services.
Each year Interfaith Medical Center serves over 250,000 patients with more than 35,000 patients visiting the emergency department. Designated as a 911 Certified Medical and Surgical Adult Emergency Care Facility, a 9.39 Mental Health Psychiatric Emergency Room and an American Heart Association Certified Emergency Care Facility, Interfaith's emergency department utilizes 21 active treatment areas.
Interfaith Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry provides a comprehensive range of mental health and substance abuse services that include both inpatient and ambulatory services. The treatment programs meet the needs of dual diagnosis patients who may have both mental illness and substance abuse issues or who may have mental deficiencies.
Interfaith's Pastoral Care Department Services are staffed around the clock and support patients and their families of all faiths. Offering both proactive and reactive pastoral services, the services include prayer, counseling, visitation, sacraments, worship and intellectual discussion consistent with each person's own faith.
Interfaith Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval.
Specialties: Interfaith Medical Center is known for the following specialty services in support of its mission:
- Interfaith's Sickle Cell Program is recognized as an important referral center where screening, testing and counseling are offered to people of all ages. This Sickle Cell Program is the only one in Brooklyn where patients are treated in the same clinic from birth throughout their life.
- Interfaith Medical Center maintains an oral maxillofacial surgery program where major inpatient oral surgical procedures are performed with an emphasis on orthodontic, pre-prosthetic and trauma surgery.
- Interfaith Medical Center's Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory has earned the highest quality award: the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation for Vascular Laboratories certification.
