Overview of Hospital: Coney Island Hospital, founded in 1875, began operations as a First Aid Station located on the oceanfront beach near West Third Street, and has grown today into a modern community hospital.
Coney Island Hospital offers health initiatives to the area communities aimed at health promotion, disease prevention and early detection. Recognizing the diversity of the community, CIH offers interpreter services any time of the day or night in over 130 languages. The hospital has been recognized for its clinical innovations in primary care, adolescent medicine, nuclear medicine and emergency services.
Coney Island's Adolescent Medicine Program is dedicated to providing high quality integrated health care to young people between the ages of 12 and 21. Services include clinics to address such relevant issues as sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse counseling and weight or nutritional problems.
CIH is a member of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC). HHC is the largest municipal hospital and health care system in the country. CIH is designated as an acute care hospital with 371 beds and over 300,000 outpatient visits at its four sites each year.

- The Coney Island Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Room provides emergency services around the clock to adults and children. The Mobile Crisis Management Team (MCMT) provides in-home evaluation, triage and linkage for persons in crisis who reside in the southern part of Brooklyn.
- CIH's new Labor / Delivery / Recovery / Postpartum (LDRP) facility with single-bed rooms located in a new tower building ranks as one of the most sophisticated centers of its kind in New York.
- The Thoracic Surgery Division at Coney Island Hospital has built a reputation for innovative treatments for disorders of the structures and organs of the chest, particularly the lungs and esophagus.
